NGK SPARK PLUG and the MotoGP Repsol Honda Team, with its riders, Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa – who between them are nine-time world champions across different classes – not only share a passion for MotoGP, they also strive for excellence and have a common appreciation of business partnerships. No wonder NGK SPARK PLUG is a technical sponsor of the Repsol Honda Team, which won the Constructor, Team and Driver MotoGP categories last year, as well as a technical sponsor of other leading teams and drivers in the championship! In this blog post you can find out more about Repsol Honda’s riders Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa. Read right to the end, for a chance to win a helmet personally signed by Marc Márquez at the Sachsenring (German Grand Prix)!
Did you know that Marc Márquez overtook 20 riders in the first lap alone at the 2012 Moto2 Valencia Grand Prix, winning him the race despite starting from 33rd on the grid? And that this performance became the sport’s biggest ever post-accident comeback? What’s more, after he had stepped up to the premier class of MotoGP, at the second round of the 2013 championship at the new Circuit of the Americas, Márquez became both the first winner at the new track and the youngest ever MotoGP race winner at the age of 20 years, 63 days – beating Freddie Spencer's 30-year-old record.
Not content with that, Márquez continued to chase records by becoming the first rider since Kenny Roberts in 1978 to take the premier class MotoGP World Championship rider’s title in his first season, and the youngest to win the title overall. That was followed by equally impressive wins in the next few years, with Márquez also becoming the world’s fastest MotoGP rider in , 2014, 2016 and 2017!
His team mate Daniel (Dani) Pedrosa is also known for chasing records. After dominating the 125cc and 250cc categories by earning three consecutive World Championship titles from 2003 to 2005, Dani Pedrosa has become one of the most successful riders in Honda’s history – achieving more podium finishes for the Japanese manufacturer than any other rider, with a total of 153.
As a team, Repsol Honda has scooped too many wins to mention. But in 2017 alone, the team was able to secure the sought-after triple-header: Marc Márquez won the 2017 MotoGP Driver Title, Honda secured the Constructor Title and the Repsol Honda team the Team Championship.
And it’s looking good for 2018, too. After the race in Aragon on 23 September, the Repsol Honda Team is leading the Team standings once again, with Honda topping the Constructor leaderboard and Marc Márquez the Rider standings.
For the last 29 years, NGK SPARK PLUG has contributed to series title wins in the highest classes of world road race championships – be it in Formula One, the WRC or the Super GT on the four-wheel side, or the MotoGP and MXGP on two wheels. That history has cultivated absolute trust between NGK SPARK PLUG and last year’s series champions Repsol Honda, as well as Yamaha, Ducati and all the Suzuki works teams who also chose NGK spark plugs in 2018.
Right in the heart of the Honda RC213V engine, at the critical point where the air-fuel mixture is ignited to produce power, you’ll find NGK spark plugs. It’s a precision process requiring components of the highest quality and reliability.
NGK SPARK PLUG supports motorsports series, teams and drivers at national and international level with super-high performance, often tailor-made ignition and sensor parts. Over the last few years, this dedicated support has paid off for many teams, who have won numerous series titles in the highest classes of racing.
So if you too want to feel like a real MotoGP champion, and own a piece which previously belonged to the “Ant of Cervera” (Márquez’s nickname), simply take part in our challenge to draw his personally signed helmet on NGK NTK EMEA’s Facebook site as of 22 October 2018. Just follow the instructions for your chance to win. Fingers crossed!
